2. Subversion Konferenz 2008

Workshop 1

Title of the workshop: Subversion beyond 1.5 – building a high-class backbone

Level: Advanced

Abstract: With version 1.5 Subversion has become a serious option for an enterprise version control solution. The flexibility and openness allows an integration into the rest of the tool ecosystem. However, to get the most out of it is mandatory to align the setup and the roll-out with the real needs of the development organisation.

Intention of the workshop: Create strategies and solutions for an enterprise-wide deployment of Subversion as well as the integration of Subversion within the existing tool landscape.

Maximum capacity: 15

Agenda:
Subversion1.5 – what’s coming?

Who should attend?
People responsible for configuration management (CM), tool architects.

Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of Subversion and configuration management processes.

Equipment:
Laptop with Subversion 1.5 installed or higher

Rainer Heinold studied computer sciences at the University of Applied Sciences in Augsburg, Germany. After a short career as a software devleoper and project leader he is now supporting organizations for more than ten years with the adoption of modern CM practices and toolchains. In his current position as Technical Director Europe he is responsible for all technical services.

At Philips, Auke Jilderda devised an approach for software development teams to collaborate between multiple organisations and locations in an efficient, controlled way.  The approach deploys key aspects of open source software engineering inside an enterprise (without disrupting existing mechanisms, such as for escalation and conflict resolution, road mapping, and requirements management) to foster scalable communities in which teams can develop and maintain the diversities on others' software in an efficient and controlled fashion.  He deployed the approach at a large product family program in the Philips Medical Systems division.

Nowadays, he is part of CollabNet Consulting and responsible for consulting on large scale, collaborative software development and Subversion training and consulting.

Bob Jenkins, Director Developer Solutions, CollabNet.
