2. Subversion Konferenz 2008

Sun at SubConf 2008

Title of the presentation: Mercurial and NetBeans - happy marriage after one year

Category: Technical presentation

Level: Advanced

Date and Time: Wednesday, 15th October 2008, 12:05 p.m. - 12:50 p.m.

Abstract: Mercurial is quite new SCM system that gained lots of attention lately. Big open source projects such as OpenJDK, OpenSolaris or NetBeans recently migrated their code bases to Mercurial.

The presentation will focus on three main topics. The first is Mercurial SCM, its philosophy and design, everyday user work flow using the tool and the integration of Mercurial functionality into NetBeans IDE. The second part will be about migration of Netbeans code base itself from CVS to Mercurial, the approach we took and current setup we are using. In the last part I will share our hands-on experience with Mercurial managing NetBeans code base counting ~50.000 source files and an activity of hundreds of changes per day. The talk will cover issues we have to deal with and solutions we have found.

Maros Sandor is an architect of the SCM support in NetBeans IDE. He has a 10 years experience in the software industry and is currently responsible for SCM and collaboration in Sun's open IDE.

He gave a speech at the past SubConf 2007 about Subversion integration into NetBeans and also had a session about Mercurial at JavaOne 2008.
